| The AsiaLearn Bridging Cultures Program (BCP) is our multi-day, in-country orientation program that blends lecture, adventure, and culture together for an informative and fun introduction to the country in which students will be living and studying abroad. The AsiaLearn Bridging Cultures Program is a core component of the AsiaLearn study abroad experience and designed specifically for semester and year abroad students. The cost of the program (including most meals, accommodation, transport, and excursions) is included in the AsiaLearn program fees. Watch the below videos to see what our Korea University, fall 2009, students did during their AsiaLearn BCP and what they had to say. Also view the video from the AsiaLearn BCP in Beijing: AsiaLearn participants will be met at the airport upon arrival on the designated flight and transported to the on-site location to participate in this informative, 4-day orientation. The Bridging Cultures Program includes a variety of sessions focused on providing students with information related to the country and culture in which they will be living, as well as opportunities for sightseeing and exploration. Our unique Bridging Cultures Program aims to successfully prepare students for their semester, including the cultural and academic differences they will likely encounter in their host country. It also allows them the opportunity to enjoy some of the country’s important attractions through a variety of organized excursions. Locations and activities vary by country and may be changed for each intake. Session Topics - Asian Culture – differences and similarities
- Language - introductory language review
- Health and Safety – specific information related to laws, infrastructure, and wellness
- Academic Differences – expectations of professors and the structure of classes
- Cultural Adjustment – what to expect from yourself in your new environment
- Travel – destination information and trip options
Excursions Excursions vary and can change at any time; however, the following activities are typically included in each Program Introduction: - Visit a cultural park and heritage center
- Outdoor excursion to nature reserves to experience the native flora and fauna
- Exploration of historic sites and/or national treasures
Other Highlights AsiaLearn participants will also enjoy social time with other students who will be attending the same university. This provides an opportunity to begin developing friendships that will likely strengthen throughout the semester and lay the foundation for a support network. These relationships often lead to close, lifelong connections that may benefit students both personally and professionally. |
